Cyanotype
Created Using Colorado Sunshine
Andrea Haydon is a Wheat Ridge based artist who explores intriguing elements from nature, and uses sunlight to create Cyanotype prints. The Prussian blue exposures are the product of fleeting moments - a perspective in time - of the nature of things of things that surround us, as well as photo negative images captured in lovely Colorado. Her passion is fueled by slowing down, and taking in the nuances of light and shadow to capture serendipitous images.
Invented in 1842 by Chemist and Astronomer Sir John Herschel, and later used by photographer pioneer Anna Atkins to create prints of botanic subject, the cyanotype process produces a cyan-blue color when a non-toxic solution sensitive to the ultraviolet and blue light spectrums is exposed to sunligh. Every print is unique; a one-of-a-kind snapshot of subject, place, and time.
